About VDHMA

Our 30th year!  The Virginia Draft Horse and Mule Association, Inc. (VDHMA), was formed in 1978 to organize and promote the draft horse, mule, and donkey industry in Virginia. Our organization has grown since to over 250 members who share their Links, knowledge, skills, and friendship in the promotion, enjoyment, and continued use of the "gentle giants" and their equine cousins. VDHMA provides many opportunities to work with, learn from, and teach others who share an interest in draft horses, mules, and donkeys. Association members have wide-ranging interests from farming with draft horses and mules to driving elegant carriages; from trail riding to dressage; from showing at halter to competing in pulling and log skidding contests; and from breeding and raising stock to caring for animals retired from the field and the show ring. Ownership of a horse, mule, or donkey is not required to be eligible for membership--just interest and enthusiasm!

VDHMA organizes and sponsors several events each year, including Spring Plow Day (April), the Old Dominion Draft Horse and Mule Show (September), and other events as member interests permit.
